One of the World's Top Computer Manufacturers Now Offering Computrace-powered Solutions for Laptop Tracking and Theft Tecovery as part of its European Customer Care Package
Vancouver, Canada: June 30, 2009 – Absolute® Software Corporation (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-based, patented, computer theft recovery, data protection and secure IT asset management solutions announced today that a large computer manufacturer's customer care offerings now include mobile computer management and anti-theft solutions powered by Computrace®.
The Computrace-powered solution, which includes computer theft recovery, remote data deletion and IT asset management capabilities, launched this month as a standalone offering within the manufacturer's customer care offerings designed for European small and medium businesses (SME), and is sold by the manufacturer and its resellers across Western Europe.
“The small and medium-sized business segment is a challenging market to reach on a global basis,” said William Pound, Vice-President, Global Corporate Development at Absolute Software. “Incorporating Absolute’s solutions into the existing sales channels of major computer manufacturers allows customers to purchase our products from their trusted source in the manner they are accustomed to. This is a key strategy in our international expansion program.”
Computrace technology is embedded in the firmware of computers from the world’s leading manufacturers and it can be easily activated by the customer.* Access to Computrace solutions is typically activated by customers when they purchase a subscription with terms ranging from one to five years. Computrace solutions allow IT professionals to track stolen computers, delete data remotely to protect confidential information, detect unauthorized software or missing hardware and help ensure regulatory compliance.
If a computer is stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team can use information sent by the computer and forensically mine it using a variety of procedures including key captures, registry scanning, file scanning, geo-location, and other investigative techniques to determine who has the computer and how it is being used. Absolute then works with local law enforcement to help recover the computer. Embedded in the firmware of a computer, the stealthy Computrace Agent is capable of surviving operating system re-installations, as well as hard-drive reformats, replacements and re-imaging.
