Frontier AI: CISOs and Cyber Resilience Under Pressure

Research Report
AI adoption isn't waiting for security to catch up. Drawing on a survey of 1,000 CISOs across the US and UK, this research shows how Frontier AI is reshaping risk, budget, the CISO's own role, and why half have considered leaving the profession becau

Frontier AI: CISOs and Cyber Resilience Under Pressure

In a survey of 1,000 enterprise CISOs, a clear majority report that deployed AI technologies have increased their organization's risk exposure and fragility while simultaneously decreasing their resilience, and a similar share say board and executive pressure to adopt AI is outpacing security's ability to govern it. AI adoption is accelerating faster than most security programs can absorb.

That pressure is becoming personal: half of CISOs say they've considered leaving the profession as a direct result of AI-driven change.

This report maps where that pressure is showing up first, how CISOs are re-prioritizing budget in response, and why the mandate for security leaders is expanding from protection alone into building resilience against AI-driven fragility.

Key findings:

  • 63% of CISOs report deployed AI technologies have increased fragility and risk while reducing their organization's resilience capabilities.
  • 60% report pressure from boards and executive leaders to adopt AI is outpacing their organization's ability to govern and secure its use.
  • 83% expect security budget allocated to AI-powered tools to increase over the next 12 months — even as most say they don't yet fully trust the most powerful tools on the market.
  • 67% say their role has evolved from being responsible for security and risk to leading recovery for business continuity following cyberattacks, ransomware, and other incidents.

Fragility left unaddressed is what turns AI-driven disruption into a resignation letter.
