SECURITY NOTICE: Important Update for Your Device

Your Safety and Privacy Matter to Us

We want to let you know about a medium security vulnerability that may affect some computers with older versions of Absolute Persistence security firmware that is present in many Windows laptops. The issue only affects devices with security firmware older than version 2.8 and that have not activated any Absolute software on the device. To learn more about this vulnerability, click here.

If your device meets those criteria — we can help you fix it quickly and easily.

Who Is Affected?

Your device might be affected if:

  • You have a Windows laptop that’s a few years old/firmware is not up to date
  • You never signed up for Absolute

How Do I Know If I’m Affected?

We’ve made it easy:

  1. Click here to use our LookUp tool on your computer (it’s a simple database we created to help you identify the firmware version you might be running based on similar laptop models).
  2. If the results come back with a version 2.8 or higher – you’re not affected. No action required.
  3. If the results come back with a version older than 2.8 this means your system may have shipped with an older version of firmware, and your device should be updated.

How Do I Update?

Option 1: Update your laptop using your manufacturer’s update tool:

  1. Visit the website for your laptop brand (Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc). We’ve created a list for you here.
  2. Follow the laptop brand’s instructions.

Option 2: Use our Free Fix

Because active users are not affected, we are offering a free license to Absolute Home & Office. You can register for, download and install the “Free” version. By installing this product you will remediate the risk, fix the vulnerability, and provide you with the ability to locate your PC if it is ever lost or stolen.

Stay Safe; Stay Secure.

We’re keeping an eye on this — and know of no exploits of this vulnerability. But updating your device is always a smart move.
