The Story

Guaranteeing Endpoint Visibility Across a Distributed Enterprise

Tietoevry faced challenges tracking and managing devices across its widely distributed operations. With a distributed workforce around the globe, Tietoevry needed a reliable solution to maintain visibility, control, and security over its vast device fleet. Tietoevry’s journey with Absolute began nearly two decades ago when the company faced a critical security event; hundreds of laptops were stolen during an office relocation. Following this incident, Absolute’s ability to freeze, track, and recover devices made it a must-have solution.

Security Challenges
Increased Efficiencies
Device Recovery
Enhanced Visibility and Reporting

Absolute provides real-time data on our device fleet. 95% of returned devices are used, which means we get a second and third life usage on a device through our device reuse program, which is great for our sustainability efforts.

The Solutions

How They Did It

Enhancing Device Tracking and Recovery

Tietoevry strengthened its device tracking and recovery efforts using Absolute Secure Endpoint, enabling real-time monitoring of devices and improving recovery rates. With Absolute’s geofencing capabilities, Tietoevry set up safeguards for sensitive areas, such as sanctioned countries, where device movement triggers security protocols. Tietoevry also leverages Absolute Secure Endpoint’s Device Freeze functionality to freeze devices and display user notifications to streamline the device recovery process. Tietoevry significantly boosted its device return rate to 114% by leveraging this capability; further investigation revealed that many employees had accumulated second devices, contributing to the higher-than-expected returns.

Improving Sustainability Efforts While Decreasing Procurement Expenses

Tietoevry also integrated sustainability into its device management practices. The IT team developed an internal device reuse program by creating a SharePoint-based internal shop for employees looking to upgrade their devices. This system leveraged real-time inventory data pulled from Absolute Secure Endpoint’s reporting capabilities to allow employees to request pre-owned devices. As a result, 95% of returned devices are reused, reducing hardware procurement expenses and aligning with the company’s sustainability initiatives by extending the devices’ lifetime.

Proactive IT Support and Problem Resolution

Additionally, Absolute’s reporting and data collection capabilities have enabled Tietoevry to adopt a proactive approach to IT support. By identifying and addressing issues before they escalate, the company has optimized network configurations and reduced help desk tickets. With a six-person IT team servicing over 25,000 devices across the globe, this proactive strategy has enhanced the employee experience and improved overall IT efficiency across its global operations.

We have 25,000 devices globally and a small IT team of six managing it all. Absolute is an integral part of ensuring device control and helping us use our resources efficiently.
