AbsoluteSafe Manages the Security Risk of the New Bring Your Own Device Reality for Organizations
Vancouver, Canada: January 10, 2012 – Absolute® Software Corporation (“Absolute” or the “Company”) (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-embedded endpoint security and management solutions, announced today it will be showcasing new functionality in Absolute Manage 6.0.1 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, including AbsoluteSafe, an app that provides organizations with granular control over corporate data stored on an iOS device.
Absolute Manage offers the only single, unified console that natively enables IT administrators to efficiently manage all of their Mac, PC, Android and iOS devices by automating time-consuming IT processes such as software distribution, patch management, and asset inventory. Additionally, Absolute Manage helps organizations save money by allowing them to track installed applications and licenses, redeploy under-used licenses and hardware to maximize inventory utilization and avoid non-compliance fines, and implement power management policies to reduce energy consumption. For Android and iOS devices, customers can manage apps, collect asset inventory and security data, perform configuration management tasks, and rapidly respond to security incidents. It is the only solution to incorporate the robust principles and polices of lifecycle management with mobile device management.
“We have more and more iPhones, more and more iPads and we have been using the mobile device management capabilities of Absolute Manage. The installation was nice and easy,” says Michael Scarpelli, Technical Support Manager at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology. “Absolute Manage is designed to be enterprise level management software. So it handles all of our computers, all of our software installs, and it does this quickly and with minimum effort. It helps us save time with installations, computer management, and it saves costs because it frees my techs from the rogue tasks that Absolute Manage can automate, so they can focus on other more complex tasks.“
AbsoluteSafe enables IT administrators to securely distribute sensitive or confidential files to iOS devices including security options to block the file from being copied or emailed, as well as password protect files. Even the screen capture functionality can be turned off for the tightest document/media security available on the market today. AbsoluteSafe provides a solution for IT that removes the need for end users to use tools like DropBox and email to access company liable information on their iOS tablets and smartphones, and returns control of that data to the company – a must-have to enable organizations to embrace and fully leverage the consumerization and bring your own device movement.
“AbsoluteSafe allows our customers to manage and secure the growing number of employee-owned devices that are making their way onto corporate networks. AbsoluteSafe allows the organization to control what corporate data is available on the device including time limited access to data, as well as the ability to lock down all sharing options,” said Peter Frankl, Vice President, Lifecycle Management at Absolute. “The response by our customers has been excellent. iOS devices, including the iPad, are one of the top form factors requested by employees. Now IT has an effective way to control the corporate data that is stored on these devices.”
According to survey results published by the Enterprise Device Alliance in November 2011, 55% of US based organizations will have deployed iPads by the end of 2012. When asked if they will either be in full deployment or at the pilot stage, this number jumps to 86%. Of those surveyed, security issues remain the number one concern for organizations. 59% are concerned about these devices being lost or stolen, while 54% worried about securing access to company data.*
