Absolute Software Extends Secure Asset Tracking®, Data Protection and Geolocation Capabilities to the Popular Android Platform
Vancouver, Canada: April 19, 2011 – Absolute® Software Corporation (“Absolute” or the “Company”) (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-based endpoint security and management solutions that reduce IT costs, prove regulatory compliance, respond to computer theft, and optimize productivity, announced that Computrace® Mobile for the Android platform will be generally available on May 3.
Computrace Mobile for the Android platform will provide organizations with:
- Reduced operational costs associated with managing Android devices using the detailed device data collected and reported within the Absolute Customer Center.
- Data and device security to protect the organization and comply with government data breach laws using remote Data Delete and Device Freeze capabilities.
- The ability to track and locate a device with Geotechnology* that includes geofencing and alerts if a device strays.
“With a growing number of non-traditional devices accessing our corporate network, the need to be able to track and secure these devices really is mission critical,” said Karl Yeager, Tier 2 IT Technical Support, Delray Plants. “With Computrace Mobile, we are able to know where these devices are and, more importantly, take the necessary action if a device is at risk.”
“Today’s organizations are challenged with managing multiple devices across multiple platforms. With the constant threat of sensitive data being compromised, IT departments require a solution that provides them with complete visibility into all of their devices, regardless of whether they are on or off the network,” said Stephen Midgley, vice president, global marketing at Absolute Software. “As IT departments add ultra-portable devices such as smart phones, tablets, and Netbooks into their deployment, they need to implement a layered approach to security that allows them to locate these devices and remotely secure them in the event of suspicious activity. Computrace Mobile delivers all of these capabilities.”
Computrace Mobile is supported on smartphones, tablets, and Netbooks running a variety of platforms including: Android 1.5 and later; Blackberry® Mobile versions 4.5 and later; Symbian S60 Third Edition and later; Windows Mobile® 5, 6, 6.1, 6.2, and 6.5; Windows® 7™; Windows® Vista™; Windows® XP®; Windows® 2000; Windows® Server 2008; and Windows® Server 2003.
Absolute Software also provides Absolute Manage Mobile Device Management for the management of Apple® iOS devices (iPad™, iPhone®, iPod touch®).
*Geolocation is only performed with the prior consent of the device owner on corporate liable devices.
How Computrace Technology Works
Computrace products are powered by the Absolute Software patented Computrace persistence technology. When embedded in the firmware of computers from leading computer manufacturers, Computrace can survive operating system re-installations, as well as hard-drive reformats, replacements and re-imaging, helping to ensure that the service is there when it’s needed most.* The Computrace Agent is virtually undetectable and calls home to the Absolute Monitoring Center with IT asset information including the physical location of each device. If a computer is reported stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team works on behalf of the customer to gather evidence from the computer to identify where it is and who’s using it, then they work with local police to get the computer back. Customers can also remotely delete data, freeze a device, and remotely retrieve files to secure the device (and the data it contains) – a reliable contingency when other data protection solutions fail.
