Daniel P. Ryan
Chairman of the Board
Dan Ryan joined Absolute as a director in July 2011. He was appointed Chairman of the Board in December 2013. He is a seasoned executive with over 25 years experience in the technology sector focused on business development, sales, marketing, and product strategy.
As RedBrick CEO, Dan is responsible for driving the company's overall strategy and growth. Before joining RedBrick in 2011, Dan was president and CEO at Secure Computing, a $250M leader in enterprise security solutions, prior to it being acquired by McAfee where he served as EVP and General Manager of their $500M Network Security Business Unit. Prior to Secure Computing, Dan served as President and Chief Operating Officer at Stellent, a leading enterprise content management software company that grew revenues from $2M to $130M during his tenure before being acquired by Oracle, where he became Senior Vice President of Enterprise Content Management Products. Dan joined Stellent from Foglight Software, an innovator in e-commerce and application performance management where he headed marketing, product management, and business development. At Foglight, the company grew from a startup to a market player realizing customer adoption by many leading e-commerce companies prior to its acquisition by Quest Software.
J. Ian Giffen, CPA, CA, CF
Mr. Giffen joined Absolute as a Director in December 2008. Mr. Giffen serves as a Corporate Director to public and private technology companies and investment funds.
Mr. Giffen is currently a director of Kinaxis Inc. (TSX) and director of a number of other private companies. From 1992 to 1996 , Mr. Giffen was Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Alias Research Inc. (until it was sold to Silicon Graphics Inc. for approx $500 million). Since 1996, Mr. Giffen has advised several private venture investment funds, and has served on the boards of a number of public and private companies including Macromedia Inc., (from 1997–2005 until it was sold to Adobe Systems Inc. for $4 billion), Mosaid Inc., Ruggedcom Inc., MKS Inc., Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Chairman), DPS Inc., MGI Software Inc., Delano Technology Inc., Corel Corporation Inc., Certicom Corporation Inc., Financial Models Inc., 724 Solutions Inc. (Chairman), Sierra Systems Group Inc., Open Text Corporation Inc., DWL Inc., Algorithmics Inc., BTI Systems Inc., Vision Critical and Changepoint Inc. Mr. Giffen is a Chartered Accountant and has a Designation in Corporate Finance. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and worked with KPMG in Glasgow from 1978-1982.
Chief Executive Officer
Geoff Haydon was appointed Chief Executive Officer and as a director of Absolute in July 2014. A veteran IT industry leader, Geoff has over 25 years of experience in the enterprise software and security market and has held senior executive leadership sales and operations positions for organizations in the Americas and the Asia Pacific region.
Prior to Absolute, Geoff served as Chief Operating Officer of EMC Asia Pacific and Japan where he focused on developing and driving sales strategy and managing key global sales functions to accelerate growth for the region. He oversaw the success and performance of the channels, marketing, global accounts, inside sales, alliances and product divisions within the company.
Prior to this role, Geoff was Vice President of Americas Sales at RSA, a division of EMC, where he was responsible for creating and executing RSA’s market strategies. Under his leadership, RSA’s business in the Americas consistently outperformed its business and market share objectives, and delivered strong double-digit growth. Before leading the Americas Sales group, Geoff ran the RSA business for Asia Pacific & Japan based out of Singapore where he more than doubled RSA’s market share in the region.
Geoff is a Dean’s Honor List graduate of the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.
Art Mesher served as Chairman and CEO of the Descartes Systems Group Inc., leading the creation of the first on-demand logistics network that provides application and communication capabilities. Prior to joining Descartes, Art launched the Integrated Logistics Strategies Services practice at Gartner Group Inc., a leading technology research and advisory firm, and built it into one of the premiere advisors to major global corporations. He is a viewed as a pioneer in harnessing the integration of business communities and considered one of the founders of SaaS networks and cloud computing.
Gregory Monahan joined Absolute as a director in December 2012. He has been a Managing Director of Crescendo Partners, L.P., a New York-based investment firm, since December 2008 and has held various positions at Crescendo Partners since May 2005. Prior to his time with Crescendo Partners, Gregory was the founder of Bind Network Solutions, a consulting firm focused on network infrastructure and security. He has served on the boards of four companies in Canada and the US.
Eric Rosenfeld joined Absolute as a director in December 2012. He has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Crescendo Partners, L.P., a New York based investment firm, since its formation in November 1998. Prior to forming Crescendo Partners, he held the position of Managing Director at CIBC Oppenheimer and its predecessor company Oppenheimer & Co., Inc. for 14 years. He has served on the boards of 19 companies in Canada and the US.
Josef Vejvoda is President of Jove Capital Inc., a boutique financial services and investment firm that provides strategic advisory services to a broad range of clients. With over twenty years of extensive capital markets experience, Josef has served in senior management roles at a number of Canada’s largest financial institutions including Merrill Lynch Canada, the Bank of Montreal, National Bank Financial and TD Bank Financial Group.
Sal Visca joined Absolute as a director in March 2014. He has been Chief Technology Officer at Elastic Path since 2011. From 2005 to 2008, he was Chief Technology Officer at Business Objects, an enterprise software company specializing in business intelligence. When Business Objects was acquired by SAP in 2007, Sal transitioned to Chief Technology Officer for the SAP Technology Development Group until 2010. Prior to Business Objects, he held a number of technology leadership positions at Infowave Software and IBM.
Gerhard Watzinger served as Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President at McAfee, where he was responsible for guiding McAfee's global business strategy and development. Prior to McAfee, he was Chief Executive Officer of SafeBoot (acquired by McAfee in 2007), a leading enterprise security software vendor for data encryption, user authentication and endpoint security. Under his leadership, Gerhard grew SafeBoot from a small, owner-operated company to an internationally recognized IT security firm with Fortune 500 customers in more than 70 countries. He serves on a number of boards, including Chairman of Crowdstrike, a global provider of security technology and services.
