Dell Latin America Now Offers Absolute Software's Recovery Service for Consumer’s Stolen Notebooks

Eldorado do Sul, RS, September 13, 2010 - Dell and Absolute Software today announced that Dell customers can purchase a notebook theft recovery service called Computrace® LoJack for Laptops by Absolute Software with select Dell computers. Available only for Dell Studio 14, Inspiron 14R and Inspiron 15R notebooks, starting in September. LoJack for Laptops is the only end-consumer service that tracks, locates and recovers stolen notebooks on behalf of the customer, and remotely deletes confidential data stored on the notebook.

“Personal computers today carry a great deal of important information like bank data, email passwords, addresses, etc. The liability of providing thieves with access to personal and confidential information may be greater than just the product value,” said Luiz Sotto, Service Manager for Dell Latin America.

Once LoJack for Laptops is activated on a Dell computer, customers can simply log in to their account or call 0800-892-2077, to use the service, which includes: 

• Theft Recovery - After a customer reports the computer as stolen to police and to Absolute Software either online or by phone, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team tracks the stolen notebook, gathers evidence and works in parallel with local law enforcement on behalf of the customer to recover it.
• Remote Data Delete – To protect their personal information, customers can choose to delete a pre-set group of files or all files, including the operating system.
• Geolocation – For day-to-day use (in non-theft scenarios), customers can keep track of their computer via IP address on an internet-based map.
• Device Freeze – If a computer is suspected to be simply lost and not stolen, customers can freeze their computer and display a custom message for someone who finds it. In addition, it helps block access to content on the computer by an unauthorized user, keeping private information private in an effort to prevent identity theft.
