Prioritizing Mobile Device Security Risks

By: Absolute Team | 3/30/2012

According to the Information Security and SearchSecurity.com 2012 priorities survey, 72% of the 900 respondents believe mobile device protection is the priority for 2012; 35% view mobile device security as a major challenge.. This is no surprise, given all the attention we've been getting about the consumerization of technology and the BYOD movement.

"The inevitable loss of the device and, more costly, the loss of the data on the device is what’s driving mobile security priorities" - Christopher Paidhrin, IT security compliance officer at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash.

The loss of data is cited as a key concern, with spending intended to go to basic precautions such as encryption and network protection - very little attention is being paid to create additional data safeguards. Indeed, earlier surveys have shown that while intentions are good regarding BYOD protections, basic security measures are thus far overlooked.

According to the survey, 71% says mobile device management (MDM) is a major initiative for the year. Focus is going to solutions, such as ours, that allow for not just the management of devices, but also of installed apps. Learn more about how Computrace Mobile and Absolute Manage MDM can help.
