We've worked hard to build positive relationships with computer manufacturers around the world so that today, most computers roll off the assembly line with the Computrace Agent already embedded in the firmware of the machine. Once activated, the Agent in the firmware can survive operating system re-installations, hard drive reformats and even hard drive replacements.  This persistence allows the device to continue communicating with the Absolute Monitoring Center so it can be managed, tracked, and - in the event of theft - recovered.
