Board of Directors
The Company has three committees of the board comprised of the three outside directors. The committees are the Audit Committee, the Compensation Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.
John Livingston, Chairman and CEO
John has served as Absolute’s Chairman and CEO since 1995, growing the company from its infancy to nearly 300 employees in 2009. Absolute invented the computer tracking and loss control product category with the introduction of "Computrace" in 1994. Under John's leadership, Absolute has evolved to offer a full range of business solutions encompassing physical, data and network security as well as IT asset management.
After completing a traditional venture capital round of financing in 1998, John led the organization into the public market, completing a $22 million IPO in 2000. Prior to taking the helm of Absolute, John was a faculty member of the School of Business at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He also founded and managed a computerized reservation service and a record production company. John holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.
Phil Gardner, Chief Technology Officer
Phil has served as Absolute's Chief Technology Officer since 1997. He is responsible for creating and establishing the software service delivery method of Absolute's unique client/server architecture.
Before joining Absolute, Phil was a senior software architect at Quarterdeck Corporation where he was responsible for developing its flagship product QEMM, a software application to manage computer memory. He also assisted in the coordination of Quarterdeck's in-house technical and field support, quality assurance and software development. Phil is a veteran of the United States Navy with a diverse range of PC, satellite communications and radar experience.
Ian Reid
Ian joined Absolute as a director in January 2000 and is also Chairman of the Compensation Committee. Ian is a resident of Vancouver, BC. He was founder of Sierra Systems Group and Chief Financial Officer until 1999. During the past five years, his principal occupation has been as President of Rastus Holdings Ltd. (a business holding company). Ian returned to Sierra Systems Group as Interim Chief Executive Officer in 2004 to 2005.
Terry Libin
Terry joined Absolute as a director in January 1996 and is also the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee. Terry is a resident of Calgary, Alberta, and during the past five years, his principal occupation has been as President of Highfield Development Ltd. (a privately owned real estate development company).
J. Ian Giffen
Ian joined Absolute as a Director in December 2008 and is also Chairman of the Audit Committee. Ian is a resident of Toronto, Ontario, and his principal occupation is as an advisor and/or director to technology companies and investment funds. At December 2008, his current director positions included MKS Inc., Corel Corporation, RuggedCom Inc. and The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Chairman). From 1992 to 1996 Mr. Giffen was Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Alias Research Inc. (until it was sold to Silicon Graphics Inc for approx $500million ).
Since 1996, Ian has advised a number of private venture investment funds and has served on the boards of a number of public and private companies including Macromedia, Inc. (from 1997 - 2005 until it was sold to Adobe Systems Inc. for $4 billion), Certicom Inc, DPS Inc., MGI Software Inc., Delano Technology Inc., Financial Models Inc., 724 solutions Inc., Sierra Systems Inc., Open Text Corporation Inc., Algorithmics Inc. and Changepoint Inc.. Ian is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and worked with KPMG in Glasgow from 1978 - 1982. Ian is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
