Absolute Brings Commercial Features to Consumers with the Addition of Geolocation, Device Freeze and Self-serve Remote Data Delete Functionality

Vancouver, Canada: July 21, 2010 – Absolute® Software Corporation (“Absolute” or the “Company”) (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-based, patented, computer theft recovery, data protection and secure computer lifecycle management solutions, announced today that it has launched new geolocation, device freeze and self-serve remote data delete functionality for new and existing LoJack® for Laptops subscriptions.

LoJack for Laptops customers can simply log into their account to use the new features, which include:

  • Geolocation – For day-to-day use (in non-theft scenarios), customers can keep track of their computer on an internet-based map. North American Premium version customers can track via Wi-Fi triangulation or GPS. Standard version customers can track via IP address
  • Device Freeze – If a computer is suspected to be simply lost and not stolen, customers can freeze their computer and display a custom message for someone who finds it. In addition, an unauthorized user cannot access the content on the computer, keeping private information private in an effort to prevent identity theft.
  • Self-Serve Remote Data Delete – To protect their personal information, customers can choose to delete a pre-set group of files or all files, including the OS, on the computer by simply logging into the Customer Center at www.lojackforlaptops.com/login.

"We are very excited about these new features, which are especially relevant for students heading back to school. Parents and students can now be assured that not only is the laptop itself protected, but so are important files - pictures, passwords and term papers - reducing risk of identity theft. Our customers requested these features and we are fortunate to have well-developed and proven features to leverage from our commercial product,” said Mark Grace, Vice President of Consumer Business at Absolute Software.

Both Standard and Premium versions continue to include the services of the Absolute Theft Recovery Team.

LoJack for Laptops by Absolute Software is available for purchase from most computer retail locations and university bookstores. Online shoppers can take advantage of Absolute's 10% off Back-to-School sale going on now at www.lojackforlaptops.com until September 1 2010.

How LoJack for Laptops Works

LoJack for Laptops is powered by patented Absolute Software Computrace® technology. It is virtually undetectable and phones home to the Absolute Monitoring Center with location information. If a computer is reported stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team can gather evidence from the computer to identify the thief’s location and work with local police to get the computer back. Additionally, Premium customers can remotely delete data from the stolen computer to help protect their personal information. When embedded in the firmware of computers from leading computer manufacturers, LoJack for Laptops can survive operating system re-installations, as well as hard-drive reformats, replacements and re-imaging. It can be activated by customers when they purchase a subscription for LoJack for Laptops ranging from 1-3 years.
