With so many employees working remotely, Apria is responsible for a large number of mobile devices, including the security of patient data that resides on these devices. As this mobility model expanded, the Apria IT team became concerned about the potential of stolen and lost devices. Working within the constraints of regulatory bodies and acts such as HIPAA and HiTECH, Apria wanted to mitigate the potential risk of exposed data. They needed an endpoint security solution that would extend their visibility to include remote devices, allowing them to monitor the status of these devices and take precautionary security measures to avoid a healthcare data breach.
Apria selected the Absolute platform because it provided them with a reliable two-way connection to each device. Once they installed the software agent, Persistence® technology by Absolute was activated, allowing them to maintain oversight across all of their devices.
To consistently deliver such a high level of security, new devices are activated at the factory before they are shipped.
“We have people working across the country and internationally, with a growing number of remote staff. At any given time, we have thousands of employees working off the local network,” said Ms. Hunt. “Each of our devices is tied to an individual. With Absolute, we can establish groups that we categorize by employee, location and function. If any details change, like a username or location, we receive an alert so we can investigate further and take prompt action by either freezing or wiping the device as required.”
The Absolute platform also supports Apria’s desire to adopt new technology in their ongoing effort to improve the way they serve their patients. “We are deploying Microsoft Surface tablets to our respiratory therapists,” added Hunt. “Through these devices, our therapists can access critical patient data remotely for a faster cycle of care to our patients.
