Why Cybercrime is on the Rise

By: Absolute Team | 3/25/2011

As you know, RSA was recently the victim of a cyber attack which leaked information about their SecureID two-factor authentication products. This proves that even industry leaders on cybercrime can themselves become victims of attack.

In the RSA 2011 Cybercrime Trends Report, and subsequent fraud reports put out monthly, several reasons are cited for which cybercrime shows no signs of slowing down.

  • Employee mobility is up
  • Enterprise use of, or allowance of, social networking sites is up
  • User-driven IT is up
  • Cybercriminals are quickly developing new exploits to get around layers of security and to compete amongst each other

Enterprises are at risk for cybercrime, particularly malware, as a result of the changing landscape of the work environment. The corporate network is increasingly at risk for attack, as we saw on RSA's own network.
