While October is Cyber Security Awareness Month globally, in the UK this week is also National Identity Fraud Prevention Week.
According to recent research, the first 6 months of 2010 saw a 14% increase in identity theft in the UK over 2009.
"There is no doubt that the phrase 'identity fraud' is commonly understood and appreciated in today's world. In spite of our increased awareness and understanding of some of the steps we can take to help prevent falling victim to identity fraud, however, the numbers continue to rise."
As part of the prevention week, a website was set up to educate consumers and businesses alike. Indeed, there is even an Identity Fraud Prevention Awards set to reward businesses which are doing excellent work fighting identity fraud.
