Grand View Research released a new report, “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Market Analysis And Segment Forecasts To 2020” that talks about how the BYOD market is going to change over the next 6 years. The report looks at many of the key issues, from device fragmentation to the growing preference for single device use, the report offers valuable insights for IT planning.

Key insights from the report include:

  • Smartphones are the most widely used BYOD device
  • There’s an average of 1.7 BYOD devices per user on a global scale
  • Tablet growth is expected to grow far more quickly than laptops
  • It is expected that cloud-based solutions will drive BYOD implementation
  • Financial / insurance and healthcare are the most active adopters of BYOD implementations
  • BYOD adoption will grow faster in emerging markets that have fewer corporate-owned mobile devices

The top challenges and concerns for supporting BYOD in the enterprise are, and will continue to be, theft of mobile devices and the security of corporate data. Even as we progress beyond BYOD to the Internet of Things (IoT), this will continue to be a problem.

Although the report is aimed at companies operating in the BYOD space, we think there’s a lot of value to be had of staying on top of where BYOD device use is going in the enterprise.

What do you think the enterprise BYOD landscape will look like 6 years from now? How big an impact will the IoT have in this span of time? How is your organization planning for these changes?
