Setting Up Device Freeze Policies in Absolute DDS

Though it's rare, a device can go completely dark with no internet connection or activity. When it does, your organization will still need to prove some measure of control over the device, especially if it contains sensitive data. Device freeze policies in Absolute Data & Device Security (DDS) allow you to secure your devices – and the important information they contain – regardless of internet access, user, or location.

A Device Freeze Policy, set in Absolute DDS, can specify a maximum offline period, which if passed would trigger a series of events such as freezing the device and changing its passcode. So, how do you know when to use Device Freeze?


When Should I Use a Device Freeze Policy?

  • When you receive an alert that a suspicious activity has occurred: encryption is not working, suspicious location, a user name change, use of blacklisted software
  • To limit unauthorized roaming, reducing unexpected telecom expenses
  • When devices are in transit, they can be frozen until you validate the end user
  • To control devices when employees are on vacation, as travel often puts devices and the data they contain at risk.

Device Freeze Policies allow you to remotely control the endpoint so you can enforce best practices, manage inventory, and protect endpoint data.
