We recently put together a new case study on how Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows School District was able to leverage Absolute Manage to not only manage devices, but also improve literacy and empower teachers. This school district has embraced technology to help its students reach their full potential, and they’ve done so with the help of Absolute Manage.
The Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows School District manages 20 elementary schools, 6 high schools, 4 alternative schools with a student population of 15,000 and staff population of 1,900. In 2012, the district implemented a one-to-one iPod/iPad program to meet its literacy goals by engaging students, improving reading fluency and oral language abilities. The program was rolled out first to 7 classrooms, with plans for expansion.
With the number of iOS devices already present, and more on the way, IT needed a way to manage and control them. Unfortunately, many MDM solutions did not work well with Apple devices in 2012.
After trying several options, both free and large brands, the Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows School District turned to Absolute Software, who had been managing their PC and Mac laptops since 2009. Using Absolute Manage, the Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows School District was able to leverage existing knowledge and systems to extend the necessary control over their endpoints.
"The biggest benefit of Absolute Manage is how it allows us to save huge amounts of time managing people, devices and apps. We can see who has which devices, where they are located, and can push out updates based on who people are. If I had to install and configure just one app on 2600 devices, it would take approximately 10 weeks. We just couldn’t manage the number of devices we have without Absolute Manage” - Matt Williams, Systems Analyst for Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District
Aside from out-of-the-box management options, the school district has also used Absolute Manage to deploy custom scripts to meet the needs of their students and teachers. There are now 30 classrooms using over 2,600 devices, but it’s all managed simply and efficiently from Absolute Manage.
