Mobile Data Security Growing Issue

New research from Check Point indicates that IT security administrators around the world are concerned that the growth in their mobile workforce will result in exposure of sensitive data.

The survey, which contacted 220 IT security administrators around the world, revealed that 54% of companies are growing the number of remote users connecting to their network. This growth increases the challenges to IT managers in terms of securing mobile assets, user management, mobile data management and more. 64% of organizations are concerned that the growth in remote users will result in the exposure of sensitive data.

Despite the growth of the mobile workforce, and despite the worries over data loss, companies in the survey were ill equipped to prevent such losses. 70% of companies do not encrypt laptops and a further 87% do not encrypt USB or portable data devices. Though encryption is only a single level of data protection, it is often the first and most basic step taken.
