By: Absolute Team | 12/8/2010

The FTC has issued its consumer privacy report, "Protecting Consumer Privacy in an Era of Rapid Change: A Proposed Framework for Businesses and Policymakers." The proposed framework would apply to online and offline businesses that collect, maintain, share or use consumer data.

The framework proposes 3 main approaches to enhance consumer privacy. They are that:

  1. Companies should build privacy protections into their everyday practices
  2. Companies should simplify privacy choices for consumers
  3. Companies should improve the transparency of their privacy practices

These approaches are outlined in detail in the 100+ page document.

If you have feedback about the framework, the FTC is accepting comments until the end of January, 2011.
