Intel and the Ponemon Institute released a study, "The Billion Dollar Lost-Laptop Study," indicating that lost laptops are costing corporations billions of dollars. According to the study, which reached out to 300 businesses, the loss of more than 86,000 laptops cost those companies a whopping $2.1 billion.
According to the study, the majority of laptops go missing off-site in employee homes, etc (43%) or when employees are traveling (33%). Of those lost laptops, 46% are thought to contain significant amounts of confidential data. Despite this, very few had any security precautions in place - encryption was the most common method of security, employed by only 30% of companies whose laptops went missing.
With up to a 10% chance of losing a laptop, and only a 5% chance of recovery of those laptops... wouldn't you want to do something to protect yourself? Come see how Computrace can help you track and secure your data - and retrieve/delete it if it's lost!
