Are You Ready for the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule?

By: Absolute Editorial Team | 9/18/2013

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights announced that the hospitals and physicians must comply with the HIPAA omnibus final rule by September 23, 2013. The final rule implements a number of provisions of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act to strengthen the privacy and security protections for health information established under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The final rule will be followed by strong enforcement after the compliance deadline, so companies not prepared face a significant risk.

On September 4, 2013 Absolute Software is sponsoring an event in Cool Springs, Tennessee on the implications of the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule. The event will feature CEO and Founder of Clearwater Compliance Bob Chaput discussing these implications.

"Not only were there numerous significant changes to the standards, implementation specifications and requirements with respect to privacy, security and breach notification, the penalties for non-compliance were also significantly increased. Further, the Office for Civil Rights within DHHS has indicated its intent to significantly ramp up the enforcement of the HIPAA rules."

If you are unable to attend this event, stay tuned for notes on how your organization can get up to speed complying with the HIPAA omnibus final rule by the deadline. Clearwater Compliance is also offering a one-hour consulting session to help assess where your organization stands in getting ready for compliance.
