Yes. You can install Computrace LoJack for Laptops on any desktop, laptop or tablet computer running Windows Vista or Windows XP (32-bit) or Mac OS X v10.3 or higher.
Is the LoJack for Laptops license transferable?
Yes, the license is transferable, but there are some restrictions. Please refer to our Service Agreement - www.absolute.com/Service_Agreement.pdf.
I was looking to purchase a used laptop. Can you tell me if it is stolen?
Due to security reasons, we are unable to provide that type of information
I am concerned about privacy issues, what kind of information do you collect from my computer?
Once LoJack for Laptops is installed, during regular communication with our monitoring center; our software will collect some information from your computer. The information collected during our ‘monitoring’ is basically details of the computer, such as size of Memory, hard drive size, type of Processor, type of Operating System, user name and IP and Mac address.
The Make, Model and Serial number is collected during the initial installation.
There is no active monitoring of your computer until you report a theft. After a theft is reported we set alerts on our end to notify us when your computer has made contact with our monitoring center.
Besides Laptops, does your product work on any other electronic devices, such as Plasma TVs, iPods, iPhones, etc…
Computrace LoJack for Laptops will only work on any desktop, laptop or tablet computer running any version of Windows Vista (including 64 bit) or Windows XP (32-bit only) or Mac OS X v10.3 or higher.
I have heard about LoJack for Laptops being in the BIOS of computers. Do you have a list of computers with this technology?
My computer was stolen, but I did not install your product. Are you able to assist in Recovery?
Unfortunately, if our software was not already installed on the computer prior to theft, we are unable to track it.
How do you track down stolen computers?
If your computer is ever stolen…You file a police report and notify our Recovery Team.
When your stolen computer contacts our Monitoring Center, it is placed on high-alert and starts calling us every 15 minutes, allowing our Recovery Team to closely track your computer’s location. Our Recovery Team provides law enforcement with tracking information and documentation essential for procuring search warrants and leading them to the location of your computer.
Do you have a corporate version of LoJack for Laptops available?
Yes, the same technology that protects a single laptop is also available for businesses with tens or even hundreds of computers. What kind of internet connection does LoJack for Laptops need in order to operate correctly?
LoJack for Laptops will work using any DSL, wireless, or cable Internet service provider. We are also compatible with most Satellite ISPs.
If Computrace is embedded in the BIOS of my computer. Do I still have to purchase your service?
Yes. A subscription to our service is required. The BIOS agent remains in a dormant state until our LoJack for Laptops software is installed on the hard drive.
What if I turn on the BIOS agent feature in the BIOS manually? Can I track my own computer or can you track my computer? Do I still need to purchase your service?
Nothing happens if you turn on the BIOS manually. A subscription to our service is still required. The BIOS agent remains in a dormant state until our LoJack for Laptops software is installed on the hard drive.
