Corporate

The loss of a single notebook computer poses a serious security risk, as countless organizations can attest. According to McClatchy-Tribune, 57% of corporate crimes are linked to stolen laptops. For IT compliance purposes, administrators need to know where their computing assets are, who is using them and what is on them. Computrace® laptop tracking and anti-theft security software helps limit an organization’s risk of data exposure. With Computrace, organizations can proactively enforce comprehensive security and IT asset tracking policies across the enterprise while increasing both end-user and administrator productivity.

Healthcare

Healthcare organizations are embracing electronic health records and laptop computers to drive down costs, increase employee satisfaction and deliver higher standards of care and member service. However, the loss of even one computer exposes organizations to damaging publicity, HIPAA compliance challenges and ultimately affects patient outcomes. Computrace computer theft recovery, IT asset management and remote health data delete capabilities complement encryption to provide the highest level of protection for facility computers and the sensitive health information on them. Government

With the vast amount of sensitive data stored on laptop computers, government agencies risk costly litigation and public relations nightmares when even one notebook goes missing. In the public sector, IT professionals must accurately track computers and be able to prove that every action has been taken to secure personal information and sensitive data until a lost or stolen computer can be located. With Computrace, customers can track computing assets on a daily basis, recover missing computers and ensure regulatory compliance by performing a remote data delete on lost or stolen machines.

Laptop Takes World Tour, Calls Home Often
A laptop reported stolen from a student in New Jersey in October 2005, called in to Absolute’s Monitoring Center five days later from Hong Kong. Shortly thereafter, the laptop began calling in from England, then Dubai, then England again, and next from a hotel in Florida. When the laptop popped up in Massachusetts the next day, state police apprehended an astonished Hong Kong businessman who had bought the computer through an online auction service. A detective who helped crack the case sums it up: "I don't think I'd ever want you guys chasing me."
